Asus ROG phone 5: The gaming beast

 You remember Asus ROG phone 3, it was a battery champion, had the best speakers, one of the best gaming smartphone, and it was close to be the best smartphone of 2020. So, yesterday ASUS launched there ROG phone 5, 5 pro and 5 ultimate (pro & ultimate only has  extra RAM and storage), So let’s see how Awesome the phone is.

BOX CONTENTS

The box has some magnet in it. Opening the box, First up is the hard back case, some ROG stickers, SIM ejector pin, the device itself, 30Watt Fast Charger with type-C to type-C cable, and some papers & warranty.

DESIGN & BUILT

The design is almost the same as the ROG phone 3. It’s a glossy glass back with big ROG logo, RGB lighting is also there and the back of the phone is protected with Gorilla Glass 3.

The ROG phone 5 Pro & Ultimate has a secondary display at the back of the phone.

Physical overview- On the top, there is a secondary mic hole. On the left is the dual SIM slot, a type-C port and a port for accessories. However on the right are the volume rockers, power button and Air triggers which are customizable. Towards the bottom are the type-C port, a powerful 3.5mm headphone jack and main mic. The phone has a total of 8 antenna bands and 4 microphones. There is a triple camera setup for the rear and for the front is the traditional 18:9 aspect ratio with a tiny chin at the bottom. And the it has a front firing stereo speakers.

The phone weighs at 240 grams and has a thickness of 10mm.

 SOFTWARE

The phone runs a custom OS that is ROG UI with Android 11, the UI is very identical to the stock android. The UI is quick and snappy, and with it’s 144Hz panel it becomes even more smoother than ever.

Additional features- Supports all the necessary sensors including Air trigger sensors, pressure sensors, etc. Also the haptic feedback of the phone is probably the best in any Android phone.

AUDIO 

Audio quality is the best is any Smartphone. Loudness & Music quality is excellent. Even the 3.5mm headphone jack works exemplary as tested by some popular tech reviewers.

SECURITY & BIOMETRICS

Has an In-Display fngerprint scanner and a Face Unlock, both are adequately fast.

DISPLAY

One of the spotlight feature of this phone is the display. The display is 6.78inch FHD+ 144Hz sAMOLED Samsung display with 300Hz touch sampling rate. It has a brightness of upto 800nits and peak brightness of upto 1200nits. Additional features include support for HDR 10+ and additional security include Gorilla Glass Victus. The display is very bright, viewing angles are good enough. Multimedia and gaming experience will be magnificient. (As tested by some popular tech reviewers) Overall display used is fantastic.

PERFORMANCE

The processor in none other than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, the most powerful android chipset on earth. And also it’s the first smartphone to come with this processor in India. This phone can handle each n everything without any Lag.

BATTERY

It has a humongous 6000mah battery with support for 30W fast charging, which can easily charges the phone fast, The battery will easily last upto 1 day with normal day to day and some heavy usage (at 144Hz) and will easily give two day battery life with 60Hz. Also the battery is divided into two 3000mah each.

Asus have built in different battery charging adjustments to address that, so there’s now steady charging which charges slower for better battery health. There’s a scheduled charging so you can reduce the time that the battery is full and not in use, so basically it slow charges over night and finishes upto 100% when it’s time for you to wake up and you can set that when your scheduled alarm is.

So in my opinion the phone is priced very competitive and can easily defeat other flagships. And if your main motto is gaming and also have a budget of around 50k simply go with this device you will surely enjoy it.
